Awesome Interactive Maps!

edupalce.com has some great interactive maps of human origins, early human migration and ancient civilizations. Some maps provide audio that describes activity that is shown on the map, such as arrows showing movement of people, armies or river flow. There is a great map of Mesopotamia which demonstrates the flooding of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and the resulting fertile soil deposits. Take a trip down the Nile River in Egypt and stop to see the impressive mortuary temple of the Pharaoh Ramesses II at Abu Simbel and of the pharaoh Hatshepsut Deir el-Bahri.













Middle East Map Puzzle - Although we are studying ancient history, we also will learn the locations of countries in the Middle East today. Below is a link to yourchildlearns.com where there is a great map game concerning the modern day countries of the Middle East. This can be a great tool to learning the locations of countries. There are different options on how to play. You can place the shapes of countries on a map with or without outlines for the countries, or place capital cities with or without hints. There is also a link on the page to other map puzzles of the rest of the globe.
